Seriously, God? Book Study

Ever feel like saying…Seriously, God?

A friend’s child dies; a parent gets a cancer diagnosis; your spouse loses their job. Sometimes life and God’s plan don’t make sense, and we end up feeling hurt and angry.  In Seriously, God? We explore the denial, doubt, and betrayal we experience when life does not make sense. While experiences can drive us further away from God, they can also be opportunities to lean in and learn more about him. Even the heroes of the Bible - such as Abraham, Moses, David, and the apostles - experienced situations that caused them to misunderstand God. Their stories show us that the problems of life do not have to crush our faith. Instead, if we lean in, we can develop a deeper faith. The series is all about overcoming some of the typical objections to trusting in God so we can deepen our relationship with him. Offered twice:

Holy Family Men of Faith

Acts: The Spread of the Kingdom

The Acts of the Apostles is the story of how a few Christians empowered by the Holy Spirit were chosen to bring Christ and the Good News to the ends of the earth.  Acts: The Spread of the Kingdom is a Bible study that traces how the gospel witness spread outward in waves from Jerusalem and reveals how the seeds of Church structure and authority took root. It shows how the joys and struggles of the early Christians in living the life of Christ apply to us today.

Men of Faith invites all men in the parish to participate in this Bible study Acts: The Spread of the Kingdom Sept. 6 from 6:00 - 7:30 AM. Participants will meet every week to view an engaging video presentation followed by a time of lively group discussion and fellowship.

Part I: Tuesdays, September 6 - November 8, 2022, 6:00 - 7:30 AM, Parish Hall

Part II: Tuesdays, January 10 - March 14, 2022, 6:00 - 7:30 AM, Parish Hall

Cost: $40 - Workbook for BOTH parts.

Small Christian Communities

Fellowship. Connection. Reflection on Weekly Scripture. Do these words catch your attention? We encourage you to sign up for Small Christian Communities! What’s that? Small Christian Communities (SCC) are made up of 6-12 parishioners who come together usually weekly in homes, at the parish, at assisted living centers, or in restaurants to reflect on and learn more about the upcoming Sunday scripture readings (a resource will be provided). SCCs focus on Scripture to pray, reflect, and discuss how the Word of God is relevant today to each of us.

SCCs have as their foundation the formation of Christ with the apostles:  the gathering of the early Christians who met in homes to share the gospel and “the breaking of bread” and who then, supported in faith, reached out to others in service.

SCCs focus on Scripture to pray, reflect, and discuss how the Word of God is relevant today and especially to each participant.

SCCs are a sacred space to...

  • Be valued and respected as a unique creation of God.
  • Listen and be listened to.
  • Be loved and supported spiritually in the celebrations and the messiness of life.
  • Pray, to share faith, to see God.
  • Be encouraged and supported in sharing our gifts with one another, our parish community, our world.
  • Live and love and grow and become most truly who God created us to be.

For information, contact Christen Cota at [email protected] or by phone at (816) 436-9200 ext. 304.

Sign-Ups will begin later in the year.
